The Seligenstädter Dreieck is a motorway triangle in Hesse , which is located in the Rhine-Main area . The A 45 ( Dortmund - Gießen - Aschaffenburg ) ends here by merging with the A 3 ( Oberhausen - Frankfurt am Main - Passau ).

geography

It lies on the territory of the municipalities of Mainhausen ( Hessen ) and Stockstadt am Main ( Bavaria ). Thus it is on the border of Bavaria and Hesse. The surrounding towns and communities are Babenhausen , Seligenstadt , Mainaschaff and Kleinostheim . It is located about 25 km southeast of Frankfurt and about 70 km northwest of Würzburg .

The Seligenstädter Dreieck is number 56 on the A3 and number 49 on the A45.

history

The A 3 has existed in this section since 1958. The A 45 was opened to traffic on June 26, 1978 as part of the construction between the Gambacher Kreuz and Seligenstadt in the 1970s. Since it was originally planned to continue the A 45 to Stuttgart and establish a connection there to the A 8 , corresponding preliminary construction work in the form of an adapted clover leaf was also set up on this triangle. These plans were discarded, also against the background of the low traffic frequency from the Gambacher Kreuz. Of the four indirect ramps, however, only one is still in operation today and has been converted into a left-hand trumpet.

State of development

The A3 has six lanes in this area. The A 45 has four lanes. All ramps are single lane. The indirect ramps of the planned trefoil have now been dismantled.

particularities

In addition to the federal states of Bavaria and Hesse, the districts of Darmstadt-Dieburg , Offenbach and Aschaffenburg also border each other at the Seligenstädter Dreieck .

Traffic volume

The triangle is crossed by around 106,000 vehicles every day.
