The Dortmund / Witten motorway junction (abbreviation: AK Dortmund / Witten ; short form: Dortmund / Witten junction ) is a motorway junction in North Rhine-Westphalia in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region . It connects the federal highway 45 ( Sauerland line ; E 41 ) with the city highway A 448 ( Bochum - Dortmund ).
geography
The motorway junction is located in the city of Dortmund in the Hombruch district , close to the city limits of Witten . The closest districts are Löttringhausen , Menglinghausen , Eichlinghofen , Persebeck , Kruckel and Salingen . It is located about 7 km southwest of Dortmund city center, about 12 km north of Hagen and about 15 km east of Bochum .
The Dortmund / Witten motorway junction is number 7 on the A 45 and junction number 46 on the A 448. Originally, the A448 section between the Bochum / Witten and Dortmund / Witten motorway junctions was a section of the A 44 ( Aachen - Hessisch Lichtenau ). This explains the high junction number on the A448.
Design and state of development
The A 45 has two lanes in the north direction and three lanes in the south. The A 448 has six lanes. All connecting ramps are single-track.
The motorway junction was created as an incomplete clover leaf . There are preliminary construction work for an extension of the A 448 or earlier A 44 to the east, for example the two ears are available for traffic from / to the east, but only released for motorway service. The main road to the east and the tangents are not completely developed. It was planned to continue the A 448 or earlier A 44 through the south of Dortmund to the Dortmund / Unna motorway junction . These plans no longer exist. Traffic for the Bochum - Kassel route is now routed via the A 45 and the A 1.
Planned conversion to a motorway triangle
Due to the no longer pursued plans for a continuation of the A 448, a conversion of the motorway junction into a motorway triangle is planned. For this purpose, traffic from the A 45 from the south is to be routed directly to the A 448 (or A 44) to the west. For the previously used, northeastern ear of the clover leaf, as well as for the other two unused ears, a dismantling is planned. The investigation of the building subsurface is to take place from spring 2020, so that the actual renovation can begin in summer 2020. [obsolete] The renovation also relieves the existing overpass structure for the parallel carriageway to the north, which, due to a recalculation of the load-bearing capacity, has only been able to be used as a single lane since May 6, 2019.
Traffic volume
The cross is used by around 89,000 vehicles every day.
