The Westhofener Kreuz is a motorway junction in North Rhine-Westphalia in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region . It connects the federal highway 1 ( Heiligenhafen - Cologne - Saarbrücken ; E 37 ) with the federal highway 45 ( Sauerland line ; E 41 ).
geography
The motorway junction is located in the urban area of Schwerte in the Unna district , on the city limits of Dortmund . The closest districts are the eponymous Westhofen , Wandhofen and Holzen -Rosen, belonging to Schwerte, and Holzen and Syburg-Buchholz , in Dortmund. It is located about 10 km south of Dortmund city center, about 10 km northeast of Hagen and about 15 km northwest of Iserlohn . It is also located on the edge of the Sauerland , which the A 45 crosses in a southerly direction after leaving the cross. The Ebberg connects directly to the cross . The Ruhr is located around 2 km south of the triangle .
The Westhofener Kreuz has junction number 86 on the A 1 and number 9 on the A 45.
Design and state of development
Since 2009 the A1 has been expanded to three lanes in both directions. In the direction of Bremen, the acceleration lane from the A 45 from Frankfurt was extended to approx. 1.3 km. Coming from Bremen there is a continuous 2.5 km long combined acceleration / unthreading strip from the Schwerte junction .
The A 45 is three lanes in the direction of Frankfurt. In the direction of Dortmund, the railway is two-lane and becomes three-lane when the distribution lane is inserted behind the cross. The complete three-lane expansion is urgently needed and is to be implemented in the next few years together with a renovation of the entire motorway junction. The direct connection ramps are two-lane, the indirect one-lane.
The motorway junction was laid out as a clover leaf , but is structured asymmetrically. The southern ear (A 1 from Cologne - A 45 to Siegen) is compressed because in this area, right next to the road, there is a Westhofen residential area behind a noise protection wall.
The cross is to be
rebuilt by 2027 so that traffic on the A 1 coming from Bremen will be guided via a semi-direct ramp onto the A 45 to Siegen. From here, the A 45 is to be expanded to three lanes in each direction.Traffic volume
The cross is used by around 187,000 vehicles every day. This high volume of traffic and day-to-day construction sites mean frequent traffic jams and delays.
