The Bremer Kreuz (also: Autobahnkreuz Bremen; abbreviation: AK Bremen; short form: Kreuz Bremen ) is a motorway junction in Lower Saxony in the north-west metropolitan region . It connects the federal highway 27 ( Cuxhaven - triangle Walsrode ; E 234 ) with the federal highway 1 ( Heiligenhafen - Hamburg - Cologne - Saarbrücken ; E 22 ).

geography

The cross lies on the municipal boundary between Achim and Oyten in the Verden district . The closest districts are Osterholz and Mahndorf in the Bremen area and Oyterthünen in the Oyten area and Uphusen , which belongs to Achim. It is located about 15 km southeast of downtown Bremen, about 90 km southwest of Hamburg and about 90 km northwest of Hanover .

Adjacent to the east is Oyter See , a quarry pond that was created during the construction of the A1 . The Weser runs around 3 km south of the junction and is crossed by a bridge structure from the A 1 in its further course towards Osnabrück .

The Bremer Kreuz has junction number 53 on the A 1 and number 22 on the A 27.

Design and state of development

The A1 has six lanes, the A 27 four lanes. All connecting ramps are single-track.

The cross was laid out as a classic clover leaf .

history

At the place of the Bremer Kreuz there was a curve since 1937, which connected the autobahn from Hamburg (opened in 1936 to Oyten, today A 1) with the then new blockland autobahn (today A 27).

The Bremer Kreuz was built between 1959 and 1962 and was the largest and most modern motorway junction in Germany at that time. It was opened on November 15, 1962. For this purpose, both motorways were initially only extended by one exit, today's A 1 to Mahndorf and today's A 27 to Achim. On July 15, 1963, both motorways were significantly extended, today's A 1 to Brinkum and today's A 27 to Verden.

Traffic volume

Around 149,000 vehicles pass the cross every day. It is one of the busiest transport hubs in Lower Saxony.
