The Maschener Kreuz is a motorway junction in Lower Saxony in the Hamburg metropolitan region . It consists of a western and an eastern part. The western part connects the federal highway 7 ( Flensburg - Hanover - Kassel - Füssen ; E 45 ) with the federal highway 39 ( Hamburg - Braunschweig ). The eastern part connects the federal highway 1 ( Heiligenhafen - Hamburg - Dortmund - Cologne - Saarbrücken ; E 22 ) with the federal highway 39.

geography

The motorway junction is located in the Seevetal municipality in the Harburg district . The closest districts are Hittfeld , Emmelndorf , Fleestedt , Glüsingen , Maschen and Horst . It is located around 20 km south of downtown Hamburg, around 115 km north of Hanover and around 30 km northwest of Lüneburg .

The Seeve flows through the cross between the western and eastern parts .

A few kilometers east of the cross is the Maschen marshalling yard, the largest in Europe.

The Maschener Kreuz has junction number 39 on the A 1, number 36 on the A 7 and number 1 on the A 39.

Design and state of development

The western part is laid out as a fork with only the connections from the A 7-Nord to the A 39 and vice versa. The eastern part is laid out as a modified clover leaf , in which the ear in the south-eastern quadrant had to be narrowed due to existing buildings.

In a southerly direction, both parts flow into the Horster triangle , which connects the federal highway 1 with the federal highway 7. The Maschener Kreuz and the neighboring Horster triangle coherently form the junction between the motorways 1, 7 and 39, as there are connections that cannot be driven directly within the Maschener Kreuz, but are only possible with the help of the Horster triangle. The Maschener Kreuz is used to connect the A 1 with the A 7 north in the direction of Hamburg and Flensburg, while the connections between the A 1 and the A 7 south in the direction of Hanover are handled in the Horster triangle. For the route A 7-Süd Hannover - A 39 Lüneburg, both the Maschener Kreuz and the Horster triangle have to be crossed, whereby the short connection between the two crosses leads over the A 1.

The A 7 to the north and the A 1 have six lanes, the A 7 to the south has four lanes. The A 39, which functions as a connection between the western and eastern parts, has four lanes. The connecting ramps are two-lane in the western part and single-lane in the eastern part.

Traffic volume

The cross is used by around 165,000 vehicles every day.
