history

In the Carolingian period around 800 a baptistery was built. On the northern edge of the church hill was the location of the oldest farm (main courtyard, rectory). In 1004 AD, the Hittfeld Church was the center of an archdeaconate (Großkirchspiel), which at that time was responsible for the care of more than 40 places. It belonged to the diocese of Verden since 849 AD .

Hittfeld was first mentioned in 1107. In 1156 Heinrich the Lion bought the main Hittfeld farm . In 1236 Hittfeld acted as the central judicial district (Gau). The so-called Goding (Gothing) was convened there for court hearings by the counts. Around 1300 Hittfeld was the local market for the area with its own Hittfeld measure and weight (Mensura Hetveldensi). At times it had the right to mint.

In 1353 the old church tower was demolished. In 1438 the bronze baptismal font was cast. In 1527, with the Reformation , the Hittfeld Church lost its status as an archdeaconate church, but remained a parish church of a large parish with the towns of Woxdorf-Emmelndorf-Fleestedt-Maschen-Over-Harmstorf-Bendestorf-Buchholz-Klecken-Nenndorf-Westerhof until the 20th century. In 1556 a new bell was cast for the church.

From 1618 to 1648 the Thirty Years' War brought suffering and misery to the Hittfeld area as well. In 1619 a 20-armed brass chandelier was donated to the Hittfeld Church. In 1932 the towns of Hittfeld, Eddelsen and Karoxbostel were merged. In 1937, Hittfeld was connected to the Hamburg-Bremen motorway. From 1943 onwards, the number of inhabitants grew by the influx of refugees ( bombing and displacement) to almost double that of the pre-war period. At the end of the war in 1945, the British marched into Hittfeld. In 1963 Goltermann's farm burned down. In 1971 and 1972, extensive repairs were carried out on the entire church building.
