Location of Ohlendorf (Seevetal) in Seevetal

Ohlendorf is a district of the Seevetal municipality in the Harburg district , Lower Saxony .

Geography and location

The place Ohlendorf is located in the southeastern part of the Seevetal municipality and in the middle of the Harburg district. Ohlendorf borders Ramelsloh in the west, Horst in the north, Holtorfsloh in the east and Thieshope in the south. Ohlendorf is 13 kilometers from the Elbe and lies in the Geest landscape .

With 1828 inhabitants, Ohlendorf is one of the medium-sized towns in the Seevetal community.

The middle centers of Buchholz in the Nordheide and Winsen (Luhe) are each about eleven kilometers away as the crow flies. The Hamburg-Harburg district of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg can be reached in around 15 kilometers by road, and downtown Hamburg in around 27 kilometers by road.

history

The area around Ohlendorf was settled long before the birth of Christ. In the immediate vicinity of the place excavations were carried out in 1910 under the direction of the prehistoric department of the Principality of Lüneburg . The urns found here could be dated to an age of around 2400 years (approx. 700 - 600 BC). Other burial mounds examined were dated to the last half of the third century BC.

It is believed that the builders of the graves were Celts and preferred the protected location of the Geest compared to the very fertile Elbmarsch , which was also threatened by flooding .

Historical data about Ohlendorf exist relatively late. The first mention takes place in 1420. Further information is only available from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

Until the end of the 19th century, Ohlendorf was a so-called cluster village . The prerequisites for such a clan settlement were in place: There was a small watercourse (now silted up again) and some permanent green areas near the houses. Whether Ohlendorf has an older history than the surrounding villages because of the name (old village) cannot be conclusively clarified, but it is assumed.

The size of a settlement at that time can certainly not be described as a “village” as we know it in today's language. It is also certain that at that time people had to change their location much more easily (feed for the cattle, storms, diseases, acts of war, plague).

Since July 1, 1972, Ohlendorf has belonged to the then newly established Seevetal community.

Coat of arms of Ohlendorf

The coat of arms of Ohlendorf was designed in 1936. It shows two horse heads pointing inwards. In the past, all houses in the Nordheide were equipped with this gable ornament. In the Südheide the horse heads are turned outwards.

Population development

The first names of the people living in Ohlendorf are mentioned in the first treasury and interest registers from the 15th century. The house numbers of the courtyards and houses of the place were determined based on the order of origin. From 1616 to 1724 Ohlendorf had 17 houses. From 1835 to 1939 the place increased by 64 houses. Until 1972 the place had 267 houses. Numerous new houses were built from 1972 onwards, but the house numbers were no longer accumulated by naming the street. Ohlendorf currently has around 750 residential units.

administration

Local mayors for Ohlendorf, Ramelsloh and Holtorfsloh have been Dr. Norbert Wilezich (CDU).

traffic

Ohlendorf is on the federal motorway 7 . The Ramelsloh / Ohlendorf motorway exit is 700 meters from the town center. District road 9 runs through the village.

There are 2 bus stops in town, from which the KVG Stade buses run several times a day to the Meckelfeld train station, where there is a connection to Hamburg. The HVV tariff applies. Line K (Harburg - Ohlendorf - Winsen) was discontinued in 1979. Ohlendorf is connected to many places in the district in the school bus service (which can be used by everyone at the HVV tariff).

Economy and education

From the first village-like settlement until the middle of the 20th century, agriculture was in the foreground when it came to supplying the farm and family. The sons of the farmers mostly became farmers by inheritance or married into other farms. Although there was a blacksmith in the village since 1770 and later a bakery, a butcher and a merchant, this remained the exception.

Due to the generous gravel deposits in the south-eastern area of the village, a company for the extraction of gravel and sand was established as early as the 1950s . The mining area was expanded again at the end of the 1990s. In order to relieve the town of traffic, a gravel road was built to the Brackel motorway entrance .

The good transport connections through the A7 favored the settlement of large commercial enterprises. In the 1970s, Aldi GmbH & Co. KG built a large central warehouse in Ohlendorf, which was expanded in 2007. The central warehouse is right next to the motorway junction and has been equipped with a noise barrier.

Rudolf Behr AG, one of the largest iceberg lettuce and vegetable growing companies in Germany, has been based in Ohlendorf since the mid-1990s. An annual May Festival takes place on the site.

The place also has some small businesses such as a gas station, a hairdresser and a post office. Shops, doctors and various service providers can be found in the neighboring town of Ramelsloh. There is a kindergarten and the local elementary school right at the motorway junction.

The proximity to Hamburg, the Buchwedel recreation area, the connection to the Hamburg transport association , numerous nearby shopping opportunities and a wide range of club sports have favored the population development for decades.

Leisure time and village community

Schützenstein in Ohlendorf

With the Ohlendorf shooting club, Ohlendorf owns a shooting club that is also successful across the region. For example, a delegation from Ohlendorfer young shooters took part in the 2015 German shooting championship in Munich. A children's playground, a small soccer field and an elongated area with targets for the archers of the SK Ohlendorf are located directly adjacent to the Schützenhaus. As is usual in many places in the district, the SK organizes a shooting festival every year, and an Oktoberfest has been held for several years.

The rifle house in Ohlendorf

The local volunteer fire brigade is located in the center of the village by the village pond. Due to the large potential fire spots such as the Aldi central warehouse or the halls and buildings of the Behr vegetable business, the Ohlendorfer fire brigade is equipped with three vehicles. Here, too, there is a youth fire brigade in which numerous local children and young people are members. Every year on Holy Saturday there is an Easter bonfire organized by the fire brigade. In the vicinity of the fire station there is also a memorial in memory of those who fell in both world wars.

The Faslamsclub Ohlendorf is also located in the village. Every year on the third Saturday in January, the Faslamsbrothers and sisters "scrounge" through the town in small groups in small groups and ask for a donation of money or drinks at every doorstep after singing the Faslamslied. This event is very popular with young people aged 16 and over and is well attended every year. In the evening everyone is invited to celebrate the end of the Faslamsfest in disguise on the rag ball in the Schützenhaus. In recent years, this event has attracted more visitors than ever before, so that long queues formed in front of the entrance and the area had to be expanded several times with tents to celebrate. Every summer, a beach volleyball tournament organized by the club takes place at the sports hall of MTV Ramelsloh.

Every year on May 1st there is a well-attended May Festival on the grounds of the Behr logistics center on Brackeler Straße. There is entertainment of all kinds here, such as pony rides, archery, bouncy castles and tractor rides. In addition, a wind orchestra performs every year and numerous sales and information stands are set up. The Faslamsclub Ohlendorf provides every year with a cocktail stand and music for the celebration at the end of the May festival.

The regional church community Ohlendorf (LKG) is also based in the village. She describes herself as a "Christian movement within the Evangelical Church" and belongs to the Ev. Luth. Parish Ramelsloh. The EC (Decided for Christ) as a youth organization also belongs to the LKG. Both communities provide offers for children, young people and adults. The community house built in 1961 is used by the groups for events and is maintained solely through donations.

The place goes directly into the extensive forest "Buchwedel", which is very popular with walkers, dog and horse lovers and nature lovers and is heavily frequented in summer and winter. About the book frond can u. a. also reach the neighboring towns of Maschen und Stelle.

Sports

Ohlendorf does not have an active sports club itself, which is why many residents participate in various sports at the neighboring MTV Ramelsloh. Football, tennis, badminton, judo and other activities are offered here.

Current

Due to the sustained demand for living space in Ohlendorf, the "Imbuschfeld-Ost" development area in the direction of the Holtorfsloh exit is in the planning phase.

Negotiations are also ongoing with the community of Stelle regarding the Aldi central warehouse - for reasons of capacity and space, the abandonment of the Ohlendorf site and the new construction in Stelle in the "Fachenfelde-Süd" industrial park are planned for the near future.
