Economic structure and village life

Hörsten is very agricultural. The formerly only inn, which was a popular destination for a break on bike tours in summer , was closed in 2006 due to the closure of business. In the village house, the so-called Dörphus, family or club celebrations as well as meetings of the local council Maschen-Horst-Hörsten take place regularly. It has established itself as a very popular event center far beyond the borders of Seevetal.

There are several lakes around Hörsten that were artificially created between 1970 and 1977 when the Maschen marshalling yard was built. The largest are the "lake in the great moor" and the "Steller See". A well-known bird tower is located at the "Junkernfeldsee" . The " Untere Seeveniederung " nature reserve there is also home to the largest distribution area of ​​the checkerboard flower (fritillaria meleagris) in northern Germany.
