Location of Meckelfeld in Seevetal

Meckelfeld is part of the Lower Saxony municipality of Seevetal . Meckelfeld is located in the Harburg district and connects to the south of Hamburg . With 10,007  inhabitants, Meckelfeld is the most populous district of Seevetal.

geography

Meckelfeld lies on the border between the state of Hamburg and the Seevetal districts of Over , Glüsingen , Maschen and Fleestedt . The two lakes "Pulvermühle" and "See im Großer Moor" between Meckelfeld and Hörsten shape the landscape and are popular as bathing lakes, also among the people of Harburg . They are located next to the Seeve , which flows near Meckelfeld. The 10th degree of longitude east runs through Meckelfeld near the Höpen forest.

history

Meckelfeld was first mentioned on the occasion of a donation by Cobbo the Younger to the Corvey monastery in 842. Among the farm goods "in the Gau Moswidi" was Mikelenfeld (derived from the Low German mikelen = large). From 1252, Meckelfeld belonged to the Principality of Lüneburg and finally came to the Harburg office in 1450 as part of its division into small districts under the name Mekelenvelde .

Around 1667, Mecklenfeld comprised 25 farms, 11 of which were already there in 1450. After the death of the last, childless Duke of Harburg, Wilhelm, the office of Harburg reverted to the Principality of Lüneburg and in 1705 was incorporated into the Electorate of Hanover . When the reorganization of Europe was decided after Napoleon's overthrow at the Congress of Vienna in 1814/15, the Electorate of Hanover rose to become the Kingdom of Hanover within the newly founded German Confederation . As a result of the German War in 1866 - annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia - it was downgraded to a Prussian province. Through the reorganization of the administration, Meckelfeld formed a political municipality that was subordinate to the Harburg district .

Since July 1, 1972, Meckelfeld has belonged to the Seevetal community. This is an amalgamation of formerly 19 independent congregations, which have been united to form a single congregation.

The Meckelfeld / Klein Moor local council currently consists of 20 seats, which are divided as follows:

Churches and cemetery

Protestant church

The Protestant parish of Meckelfeld was founded in April 1948 and, in addition to Meckelfeld itself, also includes the parish parts of Over , Bullenhausen , Groß-Moor and Klein-Moor . In the absence of a church, services were held in the halls of inns, including the railway station, until 1954. The church on Glockenstrasse, which has not yet been named, was consecrated on May 23, 1954. Then it took over ten years until she received an organ on February 28, 1965. In the same year the parish hall was completed, which since 1971 has also housed the Protestant kindergarten, the church mice. After extensive renovation and expansion, it is now called the Evangelical Family Center .

Catholic Church

After the founding of the parish vicarie Meckelfeld / Hittfeld in March 1965, the Catholic services were held in the Protestant church for over five years. It was not until August 16, 1969 that the foundation stone was laid for a separate church - St. Alfrid - on Pulvermühlenweg, corner of Am Felde, which was inaugurated on October 3, 1970.

graveyard

The inauguration of the cemetery on Appenstedter Weg - at that time just a sandy path outside of Meckelfeld - took place on October 31, 1951. Only five years later did the construction of a cemetery chapel begin, which was inaugurated on October 14, 1956. Regular expansions of the site followed until 1999. The bell tower financed by donations was completed in September 2005, and the chapel was extensively renovated from April to July 2016.

Sports

The Turnverein Meckelfeld offers, among other things, gymnastics, football, handball and tennis.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

The Meckelfeld station is on the Hanover – Hamburg line . The route is served by the Metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft , whose trains are hauled by electric locomotives, consist of double-decker cars and run every hour between Hamburg-Harburg and Lüneburg. The line is integrated into the Hamburg transport association and is referred to there as the RB31 line. Occasionally, trains on the R3 line (Hamburg Hbf - Hannover Hbf) also stop at the weekend.

In 1961, the Federal Railroad set up a bus line Harburg, Rathaus - Rönneburg - Meckelfeld - Waldquelle - Meckelfeld - Glüsingen - Meckelfeld - Rönneburg - Harburg, Rathaus, which was later operated in the HVV under number 147. It operated until the 1970s. The turning loop at the forest source is still there today. Today's bus traffic is largely handled by Harburg city bus routes operated by Hamburger Hochbahn AG. Line 141 takes the direct route (Rönneburg) to Harburg, line 443 goes over Bürgermeister-Heitmann- and Winsener Straße. The school buses are operated by the KVG Stade . The former Marquardt bus line via Over to Winsen was discontinued in 2007.

From 1884, certificates for the older age groups were issued for the first time, from 1905 there were also grades for individual subjects. 1891 the establishment of a private school was carried out in preparation for the in Harburg preferred secondary school . The primary and secondary school, which still exists in this form today, was built in 1959, the laying of the foundation stone for the school complex on Appenstedter Weg dates back to March 26, 1976.
