history

In 1971 Rolf and Jürgen Abraham founded a ham smokehouse in Moisburg near Buxtehude, which produced 20,000 hams in the first year and an annual turnover of 1.5 million euros. The company took over the Harkebrugger ham smokehouse Helmut Schumacher and founded the US distribution company Abraham of North America Incorporated in 1988 .

In 1994 a major fire destroyed the production facilities as well as the administration in Seevetal and caused total damage of 24.5 million euros, but the plant was rebuilt immediately afterwards.

On May 3, 2002, another major fire broke out in the early morning hours. A fire broke out in the area of the ham smokehouse and spread to the roof area. Based on the experience of the major fire in 1994, a large number of fire fighters were deployed again. The renewed major fire caused damage of around 7.5 million euros.

In 1998 the Ammerland ham smokers' Sandstede in Edewecht and Diers in Rastede were taken over. Other companies were taken over abroad: in 2002 the Belgian ham smokehouse Larden Salaisons SA in Recogne-Libramont-Chevigny, in 2005 the Spanish company Sanchez Alcaraz SL near Toledo.

In November 2008, 75 percent was sold to the Swiss meat producer Bell , the majority of which is owned by the Coop cooperative (Switzerland).
