history

Ramelsloh is one of the oldest places in the community. It was first mentioned in writing in 845, when the Hamburg bishop Ansgar , fleeing from Vikings, reached what is now Ramelsloh. He founded a medieval monastery here. The current church building dates from the 19th century. In Ramelsloh there is an industrial park and a small shopping center.

Ramelsloh has been part of the Seevetal community since July 1, 1972.

In 1987, an "advanced supply depot" was set up for the Dutch NATO forces near Ramelsloh. The Ramelsloh peace initiative succeeded in preventing a planned fuel store by purchasing land. Mikhail Gorbachev and Nobel Prize winner George Wald joined the peace initiative .
