Philipp Helbach (born September 28, 1900 in Wilstorf , † March 22, 1982 in Buchholz ) was a Lower Saxony local politician and member of the state parliament ( SPD ).

Helbach was the son of the innkeeper Philipp Helbach, who came from the Rhineland, and Katharina Helbach, née. Stölcken from Neuenfelde. He attended elementary and middle school in Harburg. In the separator factory in Sinstorf he learned the trade of mechanical engineer. He did military service from October 1917, after which Philipp Helbach worked from 1919 to 1939 as a mechanical engineer and locksmith at shipyards and in factories, also abroad. In the Second World War he was a soldier from 1939 until the end of the year. After that he lived and worked as a self-employed craftsman in Meckelfeld . He was married twice but had no children.

Philipp Helbach joined the SPD in 1919. Immediately after his return from the war, the Mecklenburg Social Democrats found their energetic, skilful and sociable leader in him. In 1946 the local council elected him mayor of Meckelfeld. Philipp Helbach worked successfully in this office until Seevetal was founded in 1972, from 1972 to 1976 as the mayor of Meckelfeld / Klein Moor and as an alderman for the new community.

When he retired in 1976 for reasons of age, Seevetal made him his first honorary citizen. During Helbach's tenure as mayor, the village-like Meckelfeld of 1,500 inhabitants became a suburban residential area for 10,000 people. Above all, it is thanks to Helbach that the town, with schools and other important institutions, has become the center of life for young and old. In memory of him, the event and administration building in Mecklenburg is called Helbach-Haus.

Philipp Helbach was a member of the district council from 1948 to 1976. From 1948 to 1951 and 1964 to 1968 he served as district administrator for the Harburg district , and from 1961 to 1964 as its deputy. According to Helbach's plans, the Harburg district building cooperative was founded in 1949, and under his chairmanship it built houses and apartments for refugees and displaced persons in many parts of the district. From May 6, 1955 to May 5, 1967, Philipp Helbach was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament (3rd to 5th electoral term) for constituency 59.
