The company Laurens Spethmann Holding AG & Co. KG , headquartered in Seevetal , was founded as a finance and management company in 1996 over existing companies in the tea, healthy nutrition and cereal sectors and operates throughout Europe.

Company history

In 1907 Laurens Janssen founded the OTG Ostfriesische Tee Gesellschaft . Laurens Spethmann , grandson of the company founder, took over the GmbH in 1953 and led the company from a classic tea importer to a tea packer. In 1953 the GmbH was converted into a limited partnership. With the introduction of the Milford brand in 1966, the development from a private label to a branded goods manufacturer began. Internationalization began in 1972 with the acquisition of Grosch Tee , Innsbruck , later Milford Tee Austria . The Huxol tea company was bought in 1976. In 1983, Huxol took over the Veelmann production facility in Bad Salzuflen. With the diabetic brand Veelmann and the health food brand Huxol , a second pillar was created alongside tea. The nutrient works Medin , Faulbach , was acquired in 1984, the tea company Onno Behrends GmbH & Co. , ( Norden ), 1988, the tea packer Ludwig Schwarz & Co. GmbH , Buchholz , later Milford Tea GmbH , 1989, the Ed. Messmer GmbH & Co. , Frankfurt am Main and Grettstadt , 1990. In 1991 the OTG International Warenhandelsgesellschaft mbH, Hittfeld , was founded, in 1992 the OTG Lager- und Güterkontor GmbH & Co. KG, Buchholz . In the same year the company Pagès SA , France was bought. With the restructuring of the company, Laurens Spethmann Holding AG & Co. KG was founded in 1996 and all shares in the Ostfriesische Tee Gesellschaft were taken over. The fourth generation of the family is now running the company. The company OOO Milford Moscow was founded in Russia . In 2001 LSH acquired a stake in the cereal manufacturer Nordgetreide GmbH & Co. KG , Falkenhagen. In 2007 Nutrisun GmbH & Co. KG was founded to sell sweeteners and bars. In 2017 LSH acquired a stake in the British bar manufacturer Halo Foods Ltd in Newport, South Wales. In November 2019, LSH acquired a 25.1 percent stake in Fruitwork Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH from Hamburg. Its best-known subsidiary is Nutwork, one of the largest German suppliers of nuts, dried fruits and seeds with a turnover of around 150 million euros.

Across Europe, the companies under the LSH umbrella employ 1,490 people, 1,250 of them in Germany.

The tea business accounts for 70 percent of total sales. This is what the Ostfriesische Tee Gesellschaft (OTG) with the brands Meßmer , Milford and Onno Behrends and other subsidiaries stand for . The divisions bars and sweeteners represents the Nutrisun GmbH & Co. KG . This also includes the Huxol brand . The business segment cereals operates LSH with the Nordgetreide GmbH & Co. KG in Lübeck. In addition, LSH has held a stake in the British bar producer Halo Foods Ltd in Newport, South Wales, since 2017.
