SPX is a US industrial group based in Charlotte , North Carolina . The company was founded in Muskegon, Michigan in 1912 as an automotive supplier under the name Piston Ring Company . The name was changed to Sealed Power Corporation in 1931 and finally to SPX in 1988 . SPX has been listed on the stock exchange since 1972.

In 2015, the SPX FLOW division was spun off and floated on the stock exchange.
