The Memmingen motorway junction (abbreviation: AK Memmingen ; short form: Kreuz Memmingen , also Memminger Kreuz ) is a motorway junction near Memmingen in Bavaria . It connects the federal highway 7 ( Flensburg - Füssen ) with the federal highway 96 ( Munich - Lindau ). The official name is AK 128/12 Memmingen .
description
The motorway junction is located northwest of Memmingen in the area of the municipality of Buxheim in the Unterallgäu district , only a few kilometers from the city center of Memmingen. It was designed as a clover leaf , with a direct connection (tunnel) from the A 96 from Lindau to the A 7 towards Ulm . From the A 96 you can get east of the motorway junction via the Memmingen-Nord exit, which is only a few 100 m away, directly into the city of Memmingen. Further motorway connections to the city of Memmingen exist on the A 96 approx. 4 kilometers further east with the Memmingen-Ost junction and on the A 7 approx. 5 kilometers further south with the Memmingen-Süd junction .
history
The exit from the A 7, which had existed near Memmingen since 1972, became a motorway junction in 1977 and 1978 through the further expansion of the federal highway 18 . First of all, the federal highway 18 was expanded like a freeway in the intersection area on a stretch of 2.2 kilometers (traffic opening in December 1978). The construction of the second carriageway of the A 96 in the vicinity of the motorway junction did not take place until the years 1988 to 1990 (traffic opening in December 1990). With the construction of the first and second lanes of the A 96, the motorway bridges were also built over the Buxach valley to the west . The first bridge in 1978 for the northern carriageway with two lanes, the second bridge in 1990 for the southern carriageway with two lanes. From 1998 the motorway feeder east of the motorway junction was converted to the Memmingen-Nord junction . In the area of this motorway junction, the Memmingen-Nord industrial area has expanded significantly since 1992.
Traffic situation
The cross was passed by around 88,000 vehicles every day in 2015. Especially during the holiday season, especially on weekends, there are often traffic jams of several kilometers around the motorway junction.
