The Buxach is an orographically right tributary of the Iller and about 15.6 km long. It rises southeast of the municipality of Kronburg near the wasteland of Heißenschwende . The Buxach has only been straightened in a few places in parts of Hart and the village of Buxach and can mostly develop freely on its way north. The water quality corresponds to quality classes I to II. The river bank is surrounded by forest and village edges and meadows. The Buxach feeds the Buxheimer Weiher north of Buxheim . The water from the Buxheimer Weiher no longer flows back into the Buxach, but into the Reutenbach. The Buxach flows into the Iller west of Buxheim at the Illerstadion . In the past, the Buxach also fed the Memmingen town pond south of Hart, which was drained around 1900 and which is still reminiscent of the street name Am Stadtweiher . The river was used industrially in Hart and Buxach in particular. In Hart there was a copper hammer operated by Buxach, and in Buxach there were several mills and copper hammers. An oil mill was operated east of Kronburg .
At Buxheim, west of the Buxheimer Weiher, the Reutenbach branches off from the Buxach. Very little water flows through the direct connection. The Reutenbach is fed almost exclusively by the outflow from the Buxheimer Weiher , which is located 200 m away. The Reutenbach flows north through Buxheim and feeds a fish pond near Egelsee , from where it also flows into the Iller . The confluence of the Reutenbach in the Iller is about 2.3 km north of the confluence of the Buxach in the Iller.
