The Köln-Nord junction is a motorway junction in North Rhine-Westphalia . Here crosses the highway 57 , the A 1 .
geography
The motorway junction is located 5 kilometers northwest of Cologne city center and approx. 30 km south of Düsseldorf . It is located in the area of the city of Cologne , on the border of the boroughs Ehrenfeld , Nippes and Chorweiler . The cross is located in the middle of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region .
particularities
The motorway junction forms a double connection with the Longerich exit of the A57. South of the junction, this acts as a feeder road to Cologne city center. The cross is part of the Cologne motorway ring .
South of the junction (up to the Cologne-Bickendorf AS), the North Rhine-Westphalia Road Administration has set up one of the three routes on which the hard shoulder can be opened for driving if necessary. This increases the throughput capacity on this busy route.

Current
As part of the extensive preparations for the new construction of the Rhine bridge Leverkusen from 2017 in and around the Cologne motorway ring , the new construction of the central structure at the Cologne-North motorway junction is also planned for 2016 and is expected to last until 2019. The new bridge structure will already be designed for the 6-lane operation of the A 57. As a result of this conversion, the A 57 is to be expanded to 6 lanes as far as the Cologne- Chorweiler motorway; this is independent of the plans to expand the A 57 and the Cologne-Chorweiler junction. In addition, the cross is to be rebuilt so that a half-ramp is to be built over the A 57 to unbundle the traffic flows for the journey from the A 1 from the direction of Euskirchen to the A 57 towards Neuss; For the journey from the A 1 from Dortmund to the A 57 in the direction of Cologne, a half-ramp is also to be built below the A 57. However, this conversion is only to be tackled when the first partial bridge construction of the new Leverkusen Rhine bridge is ready and can therefore resume truck traffic.

- ↑ Note: The slight decrease in pollution compared to the 2010 census and the comparatively low proportion of heavy loads are likely to be due to the closure of the Leverkusen Rhine Bridge for vehicles over 3.5 tons.
