The motorway junction Neuss-West (abbreviation: AK Neuss-West ; short form: Kreuz Neuss-West ; formerly: Junction Neuss-West ) is a motorway junction in North Rhine-Westphalia in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region . It connects the federal highway 46 ( Heinsberg - Düsseldorf ) with the federal highway 57 ( Trans-Niederrhein-Magistrale ; E 31 ).
geography
The motorway junction is in the urban area of Neuss . The closest districts are the city center of Neuss , Pomona and Reuschenberg . It is located about 2.5 km southwest of downtown Neuss, about 11 km southwest of downtown Düsseldorf and about 18 km south of Krefeld .
Immediately to the east of the junction begins a common route of the A 46 and the A 57 to the Neuss-Süd junction .
The Neuss-West motorway junction has junction number 16 on the A 46 and number 20 on the A 57.
history
The Neuss-West junction was converted into a completely plan-free junction in 2007 after the long-planned southern route of the A 46 through Neuss was rejected. Since then, the A 46 has been running on the A 57 . Before that, the cross was a light-signaled junction.
Design and state of development
The BAB 57 has six lanes in the cross, the BAB 46 has four lanes. All connecting ramps - with the exception of the two-lane connecting ramp A 46 from Heinsberg to the A 46 / A 57 in the direction of Wuppertal / Cologne - are single-lane.
The motorway junction was created as a hybrid between a clover leaf with a direct ramp and a windmill . The ears of the shamrock are each in the southern area of the cross. The windmill wing connects the A 46 / A 57 with the A 46 in the direction of Heinsberg and the direct ramp connects the A 46 from Heinsberg with the A 57 in the direction of Nijmegen. The Neuss-West exit from the A 46 from Heinsberg is a left exit due to the original design of the junction, where the Jülich Landstrasse to the A 57 was always left to the right.
Traffic volume
In 2015 the cross was used by around 140,000 vehicles every day.
