Reuschenberg is a district of Neuss . The population is 7,372 on an area of 3.22 km² (as of December 31, 2014).

Names

The origin of the name “Reuschenberg” can be traced back to Reuschenberg Castle , which is about 2 km from today's Reuschenberg. This was the seat of the noble family von Reuschenberg , which sat in Selikum , a neighboring village of Reuschenberg today. What is unusual is that the much smaller Reuschenberg Castle prevailed against the Niederhof, which was much superior in ownership at the time, when the district was founded later. Until the late 1950s, Reuschenberg was still to be found in the city maps with the addition of Gartenvorstadt .

history

The area of today's Reuschenberg was used for agriculture until the 1920s . The only building in this area dated up to that time was the "Barriere" customs station , which made up the approximate center of today's Reuschenberg, but was demolished in the 1930s. In 1931 the City Council of Neuss then presented a plan that provided for 23 settler sites of between 600 and 6000 m² in size along Bergheimer Strasse in order to facilitate the livelihood of the unemployed through private cultivation, with the construction of any houses with the aid of the future owners had happened.

The first houses in Reuschenberg were built with the Schlagbaum settlement. In the following years, the expansion of Reuschenberg, which was now referred to as the garden suburb , was steadily pushed forward. According to the plan, 350 houses should be built for workers in Neuss industry and crafts. By 1938, the initially small settlement for the needy developed into a place with a small row of shops for the most essential supplies of the residents. The architectural style of neoclassicism , which was used in many places at the time , was also used in Reuschenberg. If one compares pictures of Reuschenberg with those of other settlements built at the same time, one can see similar features with regard to the architectural style.

In contrast to the mother city of Neuss , Reuschenberg was largely spared during the Second World War . Only a few incendiary bombs fell on the tranquil settlement. Nevertheless, as a precautionary measure, bunkers had been built for the population, as they were aware of the danger posed by civilian air attacks by British and American forces. A German anti-aircraft gun stood on the current sports field (grass field) during World War II. A few years ago (around 2000), a two hundred pound bomb had to be defused there, which was found when the new lawn was built. In addition, a large number of the citizens were evacuated and taken to areas of Germany less affected by the war. After the Second World War, apartments were built in the northeast of Reuschenberg for displaced persons from the eastern territories of the German Reich lost in the war . In the 1960s and 1970s, more multi-party houses were built along Bergheimer Strasse, and overall the number of residents continued to rise during this period. Since commuter traffic to Neuss increased in the 1970s , the B 477 was expanded to four lanes accordingly.

leisure

Südbad

Until 2005 there was an outdoor pool connected to the indoor pool, with a 50-meter pool, a 10-meter diving tower and a non-swimmer's pool with a 60-meter slide. This non-swimmer area was demolished to make way for a bathing and sauna area called WELLNEUSS . The construction project was tried by some residents by means of an injunction , but this did not succeed. Today's bathroom has a smaller outdoor area. The indoor pool has a convertible roof that can be opened in summer.

Archery

At the annual general meeting of the settler community in 1952, Willi Wirths made the official request to prepare a separate shooting festival . This proposal was emphatically supported by the members present.

At the beginning of 1953 the formation of the rifle regiment had progressed so far that all corps were now busy preparing the first rifle festival. It took place between July 11 and 14, 1953 under the leadership of President Dr. med. Karl Orth instead.

After this first successful shooting festival, we joined forces to work on the further development of the club. In 1953 the regiment was strengthened by the establishment of the St. Hubertus Corps, which was created under the leadership of the major, Mr. Hubert Kluth. The regiment experienced further growth with the establishment of a fanfare corps in 1955.

As in almost all Neuss suburbs, there is also a shooting society in Reuschenberg. The Reuschenberger Bürger-Schützen-Verein was founded in 1952. The shooting festival is scheduled so that the shooting festival Sunday always falls on the 2nd Sunday in July of each year.
