Schindagha ( Arabic الشندغة asch-Schindagha , DMG aš-Šindaġa ) is one of the oldest districts of Dubai .

It is located in the north of Bur Dubai , at the mouth of the Khor Dubai , a natural inlet that was expanded by Sheikh Raschid bin Said Al Maktum .

According to the statistics, as of December 31, 2015 , the corresponding community had only five residents in an area of 31 hectares . Five years earlier it was twelve.

In Schindagha is the old - now restored - house of Sheikh Said bin Maktum, who died in 1958 . It was built at the end of the 19th century in a strategically important place near the sea - right on the inlet. The sheikh could watch incoming ships from the observation towers. After extensive restoration, the palace is now open to the public as a museum. The palace is also known as Bait el-Sheikh Saʿīd Āl Maktūm ( Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House ) or Bait el-Sheikh Saʿīd ( Sheikh Saeed House ).

In 1997 the Government built the Heritage and Diving Village here. It gives an insight into the culture and life in Dubai before the discovery of petroleum. The visitors are brought closer to the life of the sea people as fishermen and pearl divers as well as the traditional life of the Bedouin people. Cooks prepare traditional Arabic dishes in so-called cookshops during the “show cookings”.

One of the most important road links in the city center of Dubai is the Al Shindagha Tunnel , which connects Shindagha with the Deira district and crosses under the Khor Dubai.
