location
Norf is a district in the south of Neuss and is located on the left Lower Rhine. The Norfbach flows through the village . Norf consists of two areas. To the west of the railway line is the actual Norf, to the east of which is Derikum.
history
The Norf area was inhabited by so-called standing game hunters as early as the Mesolithic . The numerous watercourses formed an ideal hunting area. In Roman times there were a few villae rusticae in the Norf area. Few, but reliable, evidence attests to an early medieval settlement and a grave, both near the Norfer Hof. The first written mention of the place with its - originally located at the Norfer Hof - church comes from the year 1223 as norpe . At that time the place was purely agricultural. The large courtyards Vellbrüggen , Müggenburg, Sandhof, Derikumer Hof and Norfer Hof dominated. Derikum was in 1275 for the first time as Derichem and from 1447 Dyrkem referred. Norf belonged to the Electoral Cologne Office of Hülchrath for around 500 years . In 1586, Spanish mercenaries destroyed the place.
In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the left bank of the Rhine , from 1798 to 1814 the place belonged to the newly established French canton Neuss in the Rur department . Norf became the chief town ( chef-lieu ) of the Mairie de Norff . In the municipality of Norf, Derikum , Elvekum , Stüttgen and Bettikum , 319 inhabitants were registered at that time.
In 1815 the region became part of the Kingdom of Prussia due to the agreements at the Congress of Vienna . Norf became the administrative seat of a mayor's office in the Neuss district , which belonged to the Düsseldorf administrative district . The mayor's office was also a collective municipality , which consisted of the two independent “special household municipalities ” Norf and Rosellen . The community Norf consisted of the localities Norf, Derikum, Elvekum, Stüttgen and Bettikum.
In the 19th century, the place was predominantly agricultural and had hardly any business tax income. In 1927 the mayor's office was renamed to Amt Norf . In 1929 the mayor's office of Grimlinghausen was incorporated into the city of Neuss with the communities of Grimlinghausen and Uedesheim. On March 4, 1945, American troops occupied the localities of the office. In 1974 the plan to form a community from the communities of Norf, Rosellen, Gohr , Nievenheim and the district of Neuss- Erfttal failed . On January 1, 1975, the Norf office was dissolved and incorporated into the city of Neuss. The former town hall is now used as a police station. In 2009 another wedding took place after 36 years.

Buildings
- Gut Vellbrüggen : Is a stately, former "manor" with an imposing residential tower that is more than 850 years old and a large, square courtyard complex that was later built on it. The building complex is on the list of the Rhenish Office for Monument Protection. The Vellbrüggener Tower can be found as the main motif in the coat of arms of the formerly independent municipality of Norf. Until the end of the 1980s, the property was used for the agricultural operation of the surrounding arable land (families: von Waldthausen / Graf von Pfeil and Klein-Ellguth). Since then, the former residential buildings attached to the tower have served as the company's headquarters. The courtyard buildings and stables were converted for residential purposes.
- Müggenburg Castle : The Müggenburg is a small moated castle from the 18th century. It is right next to the Catholic Church. This was originally the Müggenburg chapel. The Müggenburg was built by the Düsseldorf court advisor Johann Dominikus von Schwarz between 1772 and 1813 and initially served as a noble women's monastery.
- Catholic parish church St. Andreas: The parish church is a late Baroque new building from 1765/67. Some of the equipment is still there. The tower was only built in the 19th century, the side aisles were built in 1913. The original parish church near the Norfer Hof was only demolished in 1839.
- Evangelical Church of Peace: The Church of Peace on Wisselter Weg was handed over to the community on the 1st of Advent 1961. It was expanded several times: at the end of the 1960s, the parish hall, the youth cellar and the parish apartment were added. In 1994 a vestibule was added. The land on which the Friedenskirche was built was donated by the von Waldthausen family .
