history

Archaeological finds in the Elvekum area were discovered as early as the most recent Stone Age. The place was first mentioned in writing in 1181 as Elvenicheim . In 2006 the village celebrated its 850 year old first written mention. Both politically and ecclesiastically Elvekum was divided between Rosellen and Norf . In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the small village. Elvekum came to the Mairie Norf. Since 1803 the division of Elvekum in the ecclesiastical area was ended and the place became part of Rosellen. In 1815 Elvekum became part of the Kingdom of Prussia and the mayor's office of Norf. Since November 15, 1855, the Cologne-Neuss railway line has passed through Elvekum and divides the place into two areas. In 1968 the division was also ended politically and Elvekum came to the Rosellen municipality in the Norf district . Since January 1st, 1975 Elvekum has been part of the city of Neuss. In 2004 the village restaurant "von Zons" had its 100th anniversary. This was celebrated in 2005, as was the 100th anniversary of the St. Aloysius Chapel.

religion

The majority of the population is Catholic. Between 1904 and 1905 a Catholic chapel was built by the village population. After its completion, it was consecrated to St. Aloysius on February 14, 1906. On June 20, 1929, the Vicariate General granted permission to hold Holy Mass in Elvekum on all Sundays and public holidays. At the moment, due to the lack of priests, mass is held every month (always on the Friday after the second Tuesday of the month).
