The Bochum-West motorway triangle between the A40 and the A448 and Bochumer Ring was officially opened on June 22, 2015. The construction of the motorway triangle included the relocation of Wattenscheider Straße and the tram line 302 that runs there. In the motorway triangle there is now a driveway from Wattenscheider Straße.

The triangle is used by around 111,000 vehicles every day.

Lookout point

A vantage point was created on Wattenscheider Strasse south of the flyover over the A 40 federal motorway for € 58,000 , from which, in addition to the A 40 federal motorway, the Bochum West junction and the motorway triangle with the A 448 federal motorway, only the Mühlenkamp rainwater treatment plant can be seen. To the south and east of the lookout point, artificially piled up hills block the view, in the north the route of the Ruhr area route of the former Rhenish Railway Company, which is now overgrown with trees . The high costs for a de facto pointless building are criticized, among other things, by the taxpayers' association.
