The Bochumer Ring is a motorway-like, approx. 10 km long expressway in the urban area of Bochum . It starts and ends at the driveways of the A 40 north of Bochum city center and is intended to relieve this. Its original name was NS VII . The section between Harpener Hellweg and Königsallee is part of Landesstraße 705. The sections are named after Bochum's twin cities Sheffield , Oviedo , Nordhausen and Donetsk .

The Bochumer Ring was connected directly to the A 40 in the west and the Stahlhausen junction of the A40 was converted into the Bochum-West motorway triangle , the so-called "West Cross". This connected the Donetsk ring , which was upgraded to the A 448, with the A40.

The so-called “Opel Querspange” is being created between Bochum-Laer and Bochum-Querenburg as the eastern cross connection of the Bochumer Ring with the A 43 and A 44 . Earthworks for this began in October 2011.
