MG Magnette is the name of several car models that the British car manufacturer MG offered from 1932 to 1936 and then again from 1953 to 1968.

1932-1936

MG Magnette K1 Roadster

The first Magnette was a touring car, a two-door sedan or a roadster of the lower middle class that MG brought out in 1932.

The MG K1 Magnette sedan, model a, has a six-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 1087 cm³ and 39 bhp (29 kW). The touring cars and roadsters (model b) presented at the same time have 2 bhp more (41 bhp / 30 kW). The sedan and the roadster are also available as model d with a larger engine (1286 cm³, 48.5 bhp / 35.5 kW).

The MG K2 Magnette is offered in parallel as a tourer and roadster with the smaller engine (model b) and as a sedan and roadster with the larger engine (model d).

The K1 and K2 models were discontinued in 1935.

In 1933 another roadster, the MG K3 Magnette supercharged, was added. Its supercharged six-cylinder in-line engine with 1087 cm³ displacement develops 120 bhp (88 kW). A year later he was gone again.

In 1934 another sedan was launched, the MG KN Magnette . It again has the larger engine with 1286 cm³, but it has an output of 56 bhp (41 kW). This vehicle was also only produced for one year.

In the same year the MG NA Magnette appeared as a tourer, roadster and coupé. It is equipped with the engine of the model KN and is manufactured until 1936.

There was only another model of the Roadster in 1934, the MG NE Magnette . Its engine with the same displacement as the aforementioned models develops 68 bhp (50 kW).

1953-1959

The name Magnette reappeared only after the Second World War : From 1953, the MG Magnette Series ZA was produced as a four-door mid-range sedan. The magnet shares the same shape as the Wolseley 4/44 . Although the Magnette is the first to be created on the drawing board, the Wolseley is presented first. The Magnette is powered by the new four-cylinder B-series engine with a displacement of 1489 cm³, which delivers 60 bhp (44 kW) and accelerates the car up to 128 km / h. In 1956 this model is revised and appears as MG Magnette Series ZB , or Wolseley 15/50 . The engine now develops 68 bhp (50 kW) and gives the car a top speed of 132 km / h.

From 1961 the four-cylinder engine of the Austin A60 with 1622 cm³ and 68 bhp (50 kW) was available for the revised MG Magnette Mark IV (BMC ADO38 ) .

In 1968 the Magnette was finally discontinued without a successor.
