In 1959 the Austin A55 Cambridge Mark II was offered. It belonged to the BMC ADO9 model family . The model had a new trapezoidal body with tail fins, which was significantly larger than its predecessor. Pininfarina in Italy designed them. The Morris Oxford was offered with the same body and technology . Very similar bodies were also used on the contemporary Peugeot 404 and Fiat 2100 . Special attention was paid to the noise insulation inside. In addition to the usual insulation material, thick felt inlays were found under the flooring and roof lining. The vehicle was optionally available with a stick or steering wheel shift.
In addition to the four-door sedan, there was now also a five-door station wagon (Estate).
The engine output was increased to 55 bhp (40 kW) by using a SU carburetor (instead of the previous Zenith model).
In 1961 the successor Austin A60 appeared with the same body, but a more powerful engine.
