The Austin A90 Atlantic was a two-door sedan or convertible of the upper middle class, which the Austin Motor Company brought out in 1949 as an entry into the post-war market for sports cars, especially in the USA.
Its four-cylinder in-line engine had a displacement of 2660 cm³ and developed 88 bhp (65 kW). This was enough for a top speed of 147 km / h. The body with the curved fenders and the covered rear wheel cutouts is said to have been influenced by the Alfa Romeo coupés drawn by Pininfarina and was typical of the English designs of the time. In the center of the front of the vehicle, the A90 Atlantic carried a single fog lamp. It is also worth mentioning that instead of the indicators that were common at the time, it already had a modern indicator system. Initially, the brakes were only partially operated hydraulically. In other words, there was a “frame cylinder” on the rear axle, which was connected to the hydraulic brake system and operated the rod for the handbrake. From 1951 there were fully hydraulic brakes.
After only three years, the model was discontinued without a successor due to sluggish sales. 7981 copies were made.
However, the engine was still used in 1953 in the first model of the Austin-Healey, the Austin-Healey 100.

There was a standard and a de luxe version; the latter had a heater as standard. The police version had a center shift instead of the steering wheel shift.
25,532 vehicles of this type had been built by 1956. The successors were the Austin A95 and the Austin A105 .
