The Austin A70 was an upper-mid-range four-door sedan that the Austin Motor Company launched in 1948 to replace the pre-war Sixteen .

The Austin A70 Hampshire had the 4-cylinder in-line engine of the predecessor with 2199 cm³ displacement and 67 bhp (49 kW). It powered the classic English sedan with a separate frame via the rear wheels and helped it to reach a top speed of 134 km / h.

The car cost £ 648 (including heating) and a little over 35,000 had been built by 1950.

In 1950 the body was revised. The Austin A70 Hereford had 76 mm more wheelbase and appeared not only as a four-door sedan (Saloon), but also as a two-door convertible (Drophead Coupe) and as a five-door station wagon (Estate). There was also a (very rare) pickup based on the Estate. The hydraulic brakes were also new.

In 1954, the A90 Westminster replaced the series after around 50,000 copies were built.
