Lucky Speed (* 2010) is a German racehorse and derby winner.

The bay stallion was bred by Silvano (father) at Gestüt Ittlingen and out of Lysuna (mother) by Monsun (mother's father).

career

Lucky Speed ​​won the 2013 German Derby (Gr. I) in Hamburg ahead of Tres Blue under Fabrice Veron from France. Lucky Speed ​​was ridden by Andrasch Starke and trained by Peter Schiergen . He started for the Hornoldendorf stable, which belonged to Arend Oetker .

After the derby victory, Lucky Speed's career was muted. He was no longer used as a three-year-old. In 2014 he ran in four races. He came third in both the Berlin Grand Prix (Gr. I) and the Baden Entrepreneurs Grand Prix (Gr. II). In the Iffezheim “Grand Prix” in early September, however, he only achieved ninth place.

As a five-year-old he made a comeback and won the American St. Leger Stakes (Gr. III) in Arlington near Chicago with a new track record of 2: 46.50. He was ridden and trained by Andrasch Starke and Peter Schiergen and ran for the Hornoldendorf stable.
