To commemorate the search for a hostel by Maria and Josef (Jesus' parents) around 2000 years ago, large pictures (paintings, drawings) of Maria are carried from family to family in the village. Each family houses the picture for one day. The altar servers of the parish church and the first communion children have taken on the task of picking up the picture from the host family in the evening and taking it to the next house.
  • Events and changing exhibitions take place in the Kulturhaus and the Alte Schmiede.
  • In the competition Our village has a future , the place was able to achieve some success. Kelz won seven times at the level of the Düren district and in the state competition of North Rhine-Westphalia there was four silver and two bronze awards (as of July 2008).
  • Kelz is located on the former coronation road that ran from Frankfurt am Main to Aachen .
  • An unofficial honorary citizen is Josef Gilles (1931–2009), to whom a bronze monument was erected in the center of the village.
