Johann Bollig

Johann Bollig (born August 23, 1821 in Kelz , † March 9, 1895 in Rome ) was a German Jesuit and orientalist .

Life

Johann Bollig was born on August 23, 1821 in Kelz near Düren and studied at the University of Rome . He was then ordained a priest . On November 13, 1853 he was accepted by the Jesuits. Both at the College in Rome and at the Gregorian University he worked as a professor of oriental languages ​​from 1855 and then from 1862 to 1864 at the seminary in Ghazir as a theology professor. After this activity he again took over the post of professor at the University of Rome. Bollig was also a consultor , was a member of the preparatory committee for the First Vatican Council and also took part in this council as a papal theologian.

From 1880 until his death he was Prefect of the Vatican Library .

Johann Bollig died in Rome on March 9, 1895.
