Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The Nörvenich station of the Düren district railway (DKB) was on the western outskirts of Nörvenich . The railway lines from Kerpen and from Distelrath , which flow into the station , each had an entry signal. From 1928, the electrically operated trains from Düren ended at Nörvenich station. Since then, tracks 1, 2 and 3 of the station have been electrified with 600 volts DC .
After the DKB stopped passenger traffic in 1963 and freight traffic in 1968, the station's facilities were dismantled. Today, the still-preserved reception building , Nörvenich Bahnhofstrasse and the “Nörvenich Bahnhof” bus stop are a reminder of rail traffic.
history
On May 1, 1909, the first passenger train ran from Distelrath via Nörvenich to Zülpich . Before the scheduled passenger and freight traffic, sugar beets were already being removed from October 6, 1908 .
On July 14, 1924, the DKB closed the gap in the rail network between Nörvenich and Oberbolheim station , about 1.7 km away , the end point of the Mödrath route of the former Bergheimer Kreisbahn, which was nationalized at that time . This also connected the station in the direction of Kerpen . Although the Düren district was the owner of the line from the beginning of 1925, management was transferred to what was then the Deutsche Reichsbahn . In 1944 ownership was also transferred to the Reichsbahn.
Initially, all traffic was operated with steam locomotives before the line from Distelrath / Merzenich to Nörvenich was electrified with 600 volts DC in 1928. Passengers to and from Zülpich were still transported by steam trains and now had to change in Nörvenich instead of Distelrath. From 1929 tram line 7 ( Düren Bahnhof - Markt - Distelrath - Nörvenich) served the station. The line ran about every 1.5 hours. On October 25, 1938, the steam trains were replaced by a Wismar rail bus .
Due to the effects of the Second World War , the DKB had to stop all traffic in February 1945. Before that, numerous ammunition trains from Cologne - Mödrath coming from Nörvenich were run over the DKB route in the direction of Zülpich.
After the war, the line from Zülpich in the direction of Düren to Eschweiler via Feld could be operated from August 13th . Electrical operation in downtown Düren was only resumed at the end of 1947 due to the severe destruction. From November 15, 1945 to November 16, 1946, the DKB also operated the Reichsbahn line in the direction of Kerpen to Langenich - from January 15, 1946 also in passenger traffic - and from April 8, 1946 to Kerpen, due to blown bridges over the Erft the route in the direction of Mödrath - Horrem was initially not passable. After the repairs, the Reichsbahn trains ran again from Mödrath to Nörvenich.
From 1955, the electrification of the Neffel valley line towards Zülpich began. The overhead line reached Müddersheim in 1955 and Sievernich in 1957 . In the process, dispensable material from the 1954 tram lines to Lendersdorf and Gürzenich was reused. Although the construction of the overhead line as far as Bessenich had progressed in 1958 , passenger traffic on the route between Nörvenich and Zülpich-Stadt was shut down on January 31, 1960, and freight and therefore all traffic followed on December 31, 1962.
After the passenger train traffic on the line in the direction of Kerpen had been cut to an " alibi pair " in the 1959 summer timetable , the Deutsche Bundesbahn switched passenger traffic between Nörvenich and Kerpen entirely to rail buses on May 29, 1960 . Up to this point, Nörvenich was manned by a dispatcher , half of whom was financially supported by the DKB and the Federal Railroad.
More and more trains were also replaced by buses on the electrically operated route to Düren. From 1962, the trains only ran during rush hour. On April 30, 1963, passenger traffic to Düren was stopped. This ended passenger traffic at Nörvenich station. The overhead line was then dismantled.
After the line to Zülpich was abandoned in 1962, freight traffic continued to decline. The cessation of freight traffic to Distelrath on June 30, 1968 was followed by the closure of the line and with it the Nörvenich station. Two years earlier, on September 1, 1966, all operations between Nörvenich and Kerpen ended with the freight traffic of the Federal Railroad.
present
The station building has been preserved as a residential building (as of 2015). On the former railway site there is still a small storage hall for DKB buses. Nörvenich is also the place of work for some of the DKB bus drivers.
The AVV bus lines 208 Düren - Nörvenich - Müddersheim - Zülpich, 212 Nörvenich - Lechenich and 215 Nörvenich - Eschweiler via Feld - Golzheim - Buir of the DKB have a stop in the immediate vicinity of the station with the stop "Nörvenich Bahnhof".
Tracks
The station had four tracks in the 1930s:
- Tracks 1 and 2: Main tracks for passenger trains (electrical operation) to and from Düren and Zülpich (diesel operation), usable length 65 m
- Track 3: Main track for passenger trains to and from Kerpen, usable length 150 m
- Track 4: Side track with loading line, usable length 150 m
Tracks 1-3 were provided with electrical overhead lines.
The station had a signal box from which the switches to the main tracks 1-3 and the entry signals "A" from Distelrath and "B" from Oberbolheim were operated.
The Buir-Bliesheimer Agrargenossenschaft was connected to the station with a siding.
