Augustine Philipp Baumann

Augustinus Philipp Baumann (born December 9, 1881 in Niedermarsberg ; † February 20, 1953 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

Life

Augustine Philip Baumann studied after high school in 1903 in Strasbourg in Alsace theology and became an active member of the Catholic fraternity Frankonia Strasbourg in KV , 1905 he went to Paderborn in the seminary and received on 6 April 1906, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

After various positions as chaplain, he became parish vicar in 1910 and, from 1920, pastor at St. Anna's Church in Dortmund . Then he became cathedral capitular and cathedral dean in Paderborn .

On October 28, 1932, Pope Pius XI appointed him . as auxiliary bishop in Paderborn and titular bishop of Casius . The episcopal ordination received Baumann on 21 December of the same year by Archbishop Caspar Klein . Co- consecrators were the Hildesheim Bishop Nikolaus Bares and the Münster Auxiliary Bishop Johannes Scheifes .

After the death of Archbishop Klein in January 1941, Baumann headed the archbishopric during the Sedis vacancy as capitular vicar . In this function he protested against the euthanasia measures of the National Socialists in a letter to the governor in Münster .

Honor

The Catholic primary school in his birthplace Niedermarsberg was named after Augustinus Baumann.
