Nikolaus Bares (born January 14, 1871 in Idenheim near Bitburg , † March 1, 1935 in Berlin ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman, bishop of Hildesheim and Berlin .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1891, Bares studied theology in Trier and was ordained a priest in 1895 . He then worked as a chaplain at the Liebfrauenkirche in Koblenz , in 1899 as a religion teacher at the Kemperhof secondary school in Koblenz-Moselweiß and in 1905 as a senior teacher at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Trier . In 1908 he went to the renewed study to Berlin and in 1909 at the University of Breslau for doctor of theology doctorate .

In the period from 1909 to 1918 he was professor teaching New Testament exegesis and apologetics at the Trier seminary . During this time Nikolaus Bares was also active as a pastor, among other things as confessor of Sr. Blandine . In 1918 Bares became regens of the seminary; he held this position until 1929. Up to this point he was also clergyman councilor and cathedral chapter in Trier , an office that he had assumed in 1920. In 1923 he was appointed papal house prelate .

In 1929 Nikolaus Bares became Bishop of Hildesheim. He received his episcopal consecration on February 24, 1929, the Bishop of Trier, Franz Rudolf Bornewasser ; Co- consecrators were Ludwig Maria Hugo , the bishop of Mainz , and Antonius Mönch , auxiliary bishop in Trier. After he was appointed Bishop of Berlin in 1933 , he took over this bishopric on February 2, 1934. He held the office of Bishop of Berlin until his death in 1935.

Nikolaus Bares was buried on March 7, 1935 in the lower church of St. Hedwig's Cathedral in Berlin.

He is remembered at the listed St. Hedwig cemetery on Konrad-Wolf-Straße in the Lichtenberg district, Berlin-Alt-Hohenschönhausen district . On a simply designed memorial with the inscription The eternal light shine for them. All deceased members of the St. Hedwigs parish are noted for the deceased Brandenburgers right next to the cemetery chapel. Among them is also Bishop Nikolaus Bares † 1.3 in an exposed place . 1935 .
