Peter Zwetkoff

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Zwetkoff (also written Petar Zwetkow , Bulgarian Петър Цветков ) (born April 14, 1925 in Bazargic, Romania , today Dobrich , Bulgaria ; † May 17, 2012 in Baden-Baden ) was a Bulgarian- German composer . He lived and worked in Germany since 1954.

Zwetkoff was considered a master of applied composition, which is never just pure music, but is always closely linked to language and action. Words are clothed with sounds through him in such a way that they are even more clearly perceived than without. The music nuances the radio play, underlines it ironically or dramatically and helps with orientation through the use of leitmotifs.

Life

In 1926 the family moved to Tyrol, where Peter Zwetkoff grew up in Hall and Tulfes and attended high school in Hall. During the Nazi period he was involved in the resistance and was arrested and interrogated several times.

Zwetkoff received his first piano lessons from a great aunt. After the end of the Second World War he attended the music school in Innsbruck (piano with Maria Auer and Hans Leygraf as well as harmony and counterpoint with Karl Koch ) and studied at the Mozarteum Music Academy in Salzburg in 1947/1948 (piano with Wilhelm Keller , composition with Carl Orff ) . He then attended the music academy in Munich (taking courses with Carl Orff). From 1951 to 1954 he was a piano teacher and head of the Orff School Works at the Innsbruck Music School.

Since 1954 he has worked at SWF Baden-Baden as a freelance in-house composer for radiophonic and cinematic tasks, music and dramaturgical work with actors, musicians, directors and technicians. He wrote the music for over 250 radio plays and numerous stage and feature film scores.

His estate is in the Brenner Archive Research Institute .
