Paul Bürks (born April 14, 1916 in Mönchengladbach ; † April 23, 1995 in Munich ) was a German actor , dubbing and radio play speaker .

Life

Paul Bürks was born in Mönchengladbach in 1916. His acting training took place at the Städtische Bühnen in Cologne . After the Second World War he was also active as a singer, for example in a duet with Brigitte Mira or together with Will Höhne and Peter René Körner .

Later he worked for decades as a permanent member of the Munich theater at the Kammerspiele . Here he also appeared at the Residenztheater in Munich for twenty years, working with the Swedish director Ingmar Bergman . He also cast him as a cabaret comedian in his film Das Schlangenei ( 1977 ), which was to represent his most prominent role in a movie. From the 1950s until shortly before his death, Bürks was continuously cast in supporting roles in television films and series , such as Derrick , The Old Man .

What he was denied as an actor, i.e. taking on leading roles, he made up for as a dubbing spokesperson who was in demand for a long time. He appeared several times as the German voice of the French character actor Michel Serrault , who was well known in the German-speaking area from the end of the 1970s to the mid-1980s for the three-part film series A Cage Full of Fools . Bürks also lent the British actor Geoffrey Keen as Sir Frederick Gray in the James Bond films Octopussy (1983), In the Face of Death (1985) and The Living Daylight (1987) his voice. More multiple dubbing casts took place for George Gaynes as Eric Lassard in Police Academy 5 - Mission Miami Beach (1988) and in Police Academy 6 - Resistance is futile (1989). But even Christopher Lee as Major Chilton in The Mercenaries (1976), Jean-Pierre Cassel as Louis XIII. in The Three Musketeers , Arthur Hill as Cap Collins in Die Killer-Elite or David Warner as Chancellor Gorkon in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Land was allowed to speak to Bürks. Bürks completed most of his dubbing assignments in the 1960s and 1970s, when he was used in many film and cinema classics, for example in Alfred Hitchcock's A Lady Disappears (for Cecil Parker ) and Notorious (as a butler) as well as in smaller roles in Casablanca and Red River to hear. In contrast, there are speaking engagements for the Muppet Show , The Fraggles and Falcon Crest in the 1980s. A special feature is the synchronization of a German actor. In the film, Neighbors Are Annoying , the dialogues of Hubert von Meyerinck , who died shortly before the premiere of the film, were retubed with him .

In addition, the actor has been involved in around 40 radio play productions on German radio stations since the early 1950s , such as in Georges Simenon's Maigret und seine Skrupel (1961) by BR directed by Heinz-Günter Stamm .
