Tooth for a tooth (also: Tooth for a tooth - The practices of Dr. Wittkugel ) is a successful German doctor series from the GDR .

action

The linchpin of the stories is the dental practice of Dr. Alexander Wittkugel, who brings up his daughter Sabine alone. His team consists of the “Häppchen” consultation hours and the master dental technician Opitz. Dr. Wittkugel is very temperamental, which is why he often steps from one faux pas to the next and thus repeatedly leads to small arguments. "Nibbles" then tries diplomatically to rectify things that have gone wrong. Together they move to a polyclinic after giving up their independent practice . The doctor's best friend is the veterinarian Dr. Oswald Baumann, who helps Wittkugel out of one or the other embarrassment.

Episodes

The following episodes correspond to the originally cut version, as they were also seen on GDR television.

1 The childhood friend In the state dental practice of Dr. Alexander Wittkugel, the doctor and his long-standing stomatological sister Victoria Happmeyer, known as "appetizers" for short, are waiting for the new master dental technician Opitz. Opitz, an experienced and excellently working master of his field, is only supposed to help out temporarily in the practice, since the young dental technician Prikoleit, who is also the partner of the doctor's daughter, has decided to give up his profession in favor of studying at an art college.

His friend Oswald advises him to have a little debut party for the new group of colleagues from the polyclinic. Bite agrees to host the party in her apartment. It will be a successful party until, at an advanced hour, Wittkugel accidentally blows up the party on the assumption that the food is poisoned.

Therefore, she wants to avoid a possible birthday party and hands over the present for her father. At the request of the senior doctor, a female colleague is allowed to sit in at Wittkugel. After initial difficulties, the two of them get on very well in the end. In return, however, a patient who pretends to be a hobby dentist drives Wittkugel insane. The doctor also has to grapple with a young student who seems to be suffering from exam anxiety and makes a fatal mistake in the process. Charisma

The series was initially only planned for seven episodes, which were shown from May to June 1985 on Fridays at 8 p.m. on the first program of GDR television . The popularity of the audience meant that immediately after the end of the first season, a second season with a further seven episodes was developed and produced. This was then shown fifteen months later, in August and September 1986, on the traditional broadcasting slot on Friday evening. Again around fifteen months later, in January / February 1988, the third season followed with the final seven episodes.

After the first broadcast on DDR-1 and the reruns on DDR-2, the private broadcaster RTLplus first showed the seven episodes of the first season from June 1988 and finally the complete three seasons on different days of the week from June to September 1989. In 1989 the first program of the East German television cut the 21 episodes of around one hour to 43 half-hour episodes and showed them from November on Saturdays at 7 p.m. in front of the current camera . This version was last shown in 1998 as a daily soap in the weekday afternoon program of the MDR. All subsequent repetitions reverted to the original one-hour format with 21 episodes. Most recently, the MDR showed the complete series in the original cut from May to September 2015 on its slot for GDR series on Saturday morning. Here the series has been broadcast again in the original cut since October 27, 2018.
