action

Jens Pohle wants to go on vacation with his fiancée Marion. He lied to her about being a mechanical engineer , but actually works as a locksmith. He has no money for an expensive vacation, but he hides that from his girlfriend. Together with his best friend Erwin Sladowski, he has developed a plan how they can both make a lot of money quickly. They want to ambush the chief accountant of a construction company and steal his wages. They are hoping for two mistakes made by the man whose behavior they have been investigating over the course of several days: he drives against the instructions without a passenger and takes a time-saving shortcut because it allows him to sleep longer. Both assumptions turn out to be true. On the little-traveled short-cut route, Jens lies down next to his bike on the street and pretends to be dead. Accountant Walter Schubach gets out of the car to help Jens. Meanwhile, Erwin takes the suitcase, but gets stuck on the car door. Walter attacks him to get the suitcase back. Erwin slips on the slippery winter road, hits the door frame with his head and remains motionless. Jens, who called Erwin's name, then beats Walter down in a rage. He lifts the injured Erwin into Walter's car and drives away. Both flee across a lake to their waiting Trabant. A fisherman sees Jens lifting Erwin into the car, but Jens doesn't want any help from him.

Erwin's head wound is bleeding profusely, but Jens brings him to his apartment for fear of the police. In addition to his mother, Marion is also surprisingly waiting here, who was thrown out of the apartment by her parents who did not agree with Jens. The medical student takes care of Erwin's head wound because she believes that Jens will drive him to the hospital immediately. However, Jens brings Erwin to his company, where they go past the security guard and into the changing room. Erwin has a locker here and lies down exhausted. Jens helps him as best he can. He divides the stolen money - a total of around 22,000 marks - and finally leaves Erwin at his insistence, because he wants to go on vacation with Marion that evening.

Meanwhile, the investigators around Lieutenant Jürgen Huebner are feverishly looking for Erwin, who they suspect is so badly injured that he will die without medical help. Using traces on the escape vehicle, they can construct that one of the two perpetrators must be a locksmith and the other a concrete worker. Erwin also has to do with color, so some construction companies color parts made on site. There are only three such establishments in the area. Jürgen Hübner drives to the first of the three companies. Meanwhile, Erwin's pregnant wife Angelika Sladowski went looking for her husband. She learns from Jens' mother that he was injured in the hospital. Since he cannot be found in any of the hospitals, Angelika files a missing person report with the police. She knows that the man we are looking for is Erwin, because Walter Schubach has now been questioned about the course of events. Erwin, in turn, works in the same company that Jürgen Hübner is currently visiting. The security guard reported to investigators that the lights were on in the changing room. The investigators found traces of blood on site, but Erwin was able to escape successfully through a window despite his injury. Jens brought the concern for Erwin back to the company, where he met and took Marion with him on the way. Not far from the farm, they both find Erwin who collapsed in the snow. At Marion's insistence, Jens takes him to the hospital. The investigators were meanwhile able to trace Erwin's path with sniffer dogs, which ends at fresh wagon tracks. A little later, Erwin's arrival at the hospital is reported. The investigators appear and arrest Jens, who says goodbye to his fiancé Marion.
