The search for the wonderfully colored bird is a children's film by director Rolf Losansky , produced by the DEFA studio for feature films and released in GDR cinemas on March 6, 1964. action

In the children's home "Sonnenschein" in the small village of Käsebrot there is a special feature, it is a wonderfully colored bird that has become a favorite of all children, as its lovely singing wakes them out of bed in the morning, the flowers around the home bloom in all colors and let the fountain gush happily. But suddenly everyone overslept. The children in the home are horrified to discover that their bird has been stolen from them. The two chief constables from the police who were summoned also have no advice. Together with the two girls Bärbel and Sonja and the imaginative Lutz they go on a search. In the neighboring village of Butterberg you will find what you are looking for at the fairground , where the hype is currently taking place. After initially suspecting various innocent people, Lutz becomes impatient and continues the search on his own. He only realizes that he is putting himself in great danger when the magician Sassafraß and his wife take him prisoner. Fortunately, the police officers find out about the magician and free Lutz and the colorful little bird.
