Karl Mickel (born August 12, 1935 in Dresden , † June 20, 2000 in Berlin ) was a German writer.

life and work

Mickel was born on August 12, 1935 in Dresden as the son of a working-class family. There he attended elementary school from 1941 to 1949 and, together with his mother, witnessed the bombing of Dresden in February 1945. The pictures of the following days never left him. From 1949 to 1953 he also attended secondary school in Dresden. He graduated from high school. Mickel was admitted to study in Berlin.

Mickel studied national economic planning and economic history with Hans Mottek and Jürgen Kuczynski at the University of Economics in Berlin-Karlshorst from 1953 to 1958 . In 1958 he worked for the magazine “Die Wirtschaft” and from 1959 to 1963 was editor of the magazine “Junge Kunst” . After that, he was a research assistant to the University of Economics in Berlin and member of the leadership of the Berliner Ensemble , where he met Ruth Berghaus worked, most recently a professor at the School of Dramatic Arts "Ernst Busch" . Mickel is assigned to the Saxon Poet School . Mickel had two children with his wife, and his relationship with the poet Sarah Kirsch also had a son.
