Mexican tacos

A Taco is a fast food court of Mexican cuisine , which enjoys great throughout North and Central America popularity. It consists of a wheat or corn tortilla that can be filled with numerous ingredients.

In most cases, the taco is seasoned with a spicy salsa . Tacos are always eaten out of hand.

origin

The term taco comes from Mexican Spanish and means plug or ball . Possibly the term goes back to 18th century Mexican miners who called the gunpowder wrapped in paper used to blast rocks containing silver as a taco. Filled cornmeal tortillas were consumed (under a different name) in the region before the first Europeans arrived.

In Mexico , a taco is a folded or rolled tortilla that is filled with various ingredients. The filling usually consists of a mixture of meat and vegetables, sometimes fish and seafood. In addition, as with a quesadilla , cheese is often filled into the taco.

A typical filling is bistec (Spanish for beef steak ), which is cut into small pieces after roasting and is also eaten as bistec con queso with cheese in a taco. Another typical variant is tacos al pastor . The meat for this comes from a rotisserie.

In other Central American countries such as Nicaragua and Honduras , a corn tortilla is filled with a hearty filling of meat and vegetables, rolled up, fixed with a skewer (for example a toothpick) and fried. Then you add coleslaw, sour cream and some chilero (a salsa consisting of vinegar, onions, hot chillies and carrots) over the taco.

Taco stalls shape the typical Mexican cityscape. There are usually several bowls of salsas and limes ready. With tortillas, quesadillas , burritos, and hamburgers, tacos are one of the most popular fast-food dishes in Mexico.

Tacos are also very popular in the USA . There is a fast food chain called Taco Bell , among others , which specializes in tacos and Tex-Mex dishes . A typical American taco consists of a soft wheat tortilla (soft-shell taco) or a crispy corn tortilla (hard-shell taco) , which is filled with fried mince, lettuce, onions, tomatoes and cheese (mostly cheddar ). Depending on your needs, a taco can also be refined with sour cream (taco supreme) or chili sauce . There are also other variants, such as vegetarian, with grilled steak (Grilled Steak Taco) or with chicken (Chicken Taco) .
