A burrito (Spanish for little donkey ) is a filled tortilla made from wheat flour and a dish from Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine .

Preparation and serving

The burrito consists of a soft wheat tortilla in which, among other things, minced meat , beans , rice , tomatoes , avocado or cheese are wrapped. Sometimes green salad and sour cream are also added. The ease of consumption makes the burrito a popular dish in many fast food restaurants, especially in the United States .

Burritos are already filled and served rolled, while with Fajitas wheat tortillas and ingredients are served individually and then filled and rolled by the guest himself. Fried burritos are known as chimichanga and, unlike enchiladas, are also made from wheat flour.

etymology

Burrito is the diminutive of burro , the Spanish word for donkey . A burrito is a donkey. What this name comes from is controversial: One explanation draws on the similarity of the appearance of dog-ears and the folded ends of the burrito. Another variant compares the burrito with the package that a donkey carries on its back.
