HB photometer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An HB photometer (often also called an HB checker ) is an electronic measuring device used to determine the hemoglobin content of the blood. While large laboratory equipment is used for this in the clinical environment, small mobile devices are used in on-site blood donation campaigns.

A drop of blood is removed by puncturing the ear or fingertip and drawn in using a cuvette . This has a capillary gap that is filled with a chemical reagent . The reaction of the blood with the reagent changes the light transmission, which can be recorded photometrically . The spectral absorption properties of hemoglobin are taken into account

There are now also devices that do not require chemical reagents.

Well-known manufacturers of HB photometers are, for example, the companies DiaSpect Medical, EKF Diagnostic and HemoCue.
