Jan-Heie Erchinger
Jan-Heie Erchinger (born November 8, 1967 in Osterode am Harz , Germany) is a German pianist, keyboardist and producer. He lives near Braunschweig and in Berlin.
Life
Jan-Heie Erchinger grew up as the older of two sons of a pastor and a teacher in Hanover and Braunschweig. Both brothers were enthusiastic about music at a young age and began to play the piano (Jan-Heie) and drums ( DIrk ). Jan-Heie Erchinger took jazz piano lessons from Otto Wolters .
After graduating from the Neue Oberschule in Braunschweig, Erchinger attended the professional course at the Yamaha Music Station for two years from 1989 and completed the pop course contact course at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater in 1991 . Erchinger also studied music in Braunschweig with Rainer Schmitt and Rainer Wilke and graduated in 1995 with a music exam.

At the same time, Erchinger's musical career began in 1992 when he achieved a Billboard Top 10 placement in the NAC Jazz Charts, USA with the duo Blue Knights. In 1994 Erchinger was a founding member of the Jazzkantine , of which he was a member until 2010. With this formation he recorded eight albums and a live DVD and had more than 1000 appearances. He plays the piano and, as a jazz / funk keyboardist, mainly plays originals from the 1970s, such as the Fender Rhodes e-piano, the Hohner D6 Clavinet , the Yamaha CP-70 and the Moog-Prodigy.
Erchinger is a full GEMA member and also belongs to the German Tonkünstlerverband . His children's musical Kampf um Nussland premiered in 2009. In 2010 he can be seen as the acting pianist in I hired a contract killer by Aki Kaurismäki at the Staatstheater Braunschweig .
Ever since it was founded, Erchinger has been a regular at the Jazzkantine (until 2010), D-Phunks (until 2010), the Blue Knights, the JuJu Orchestra and the Bahama Soul Club . In addition to his own music, his recording studio also produces audio books and advertising music.
His album Capital Tunes was released in 2012 and the album Elevator Groove Machine in 2013 . In addition, Erchinger is dedicated to numerous other cultural and educational projects. In 2012 he took part in the Tastentaumel music festival together with the Wortmuseum , was musical director of the Jazz im Park jazz festival in 2013 and also staged the musical collage Vicky Lu - Departure into a new world in 2013 as part of the cultural program 1913 - Departure into a New World listed.
From 2012 to 2013, Jan-Heie Erchinger was responsible for the educational project Wir kann auch Platt! For the Braunschweig landscape . musically supervised and produced by the band bbeatz .
Since 2012 he has been teaching music in social work at the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences and since 2013 for jazz piano at the TU Braunschweig .
Erchinger is also represented in two book publications. On the one hand in Bohlweg times: The 80s in Braunschweig , on the other hand in blue-yellow addiction: A Eintracht Braunschweig fan book .

Jazz canteen
Jan-Heie Erchinger has been the keyboardist since the Jazzkantine was founded in 1994. Characteristic of his style there are mainly calm Rhodes pads and loud and exact funk patterns on the Hohner Clavinet, in close coordination with the drums of his brother Dirk Erchinger . The jazz canteen, which plays a mixture of funk jazz and hip-hop, is an ECHO prize winner. In 2009 they were nominated again for the ECHO with Hells Kitchen . Together with the Jazzkantine, Erchinger took part in numerous productions of the Braunschweig State Theater , such as Braunschweig, Braunschweig , Ölper 12 Points and Unser Eintracht .
D-Phunk / D-Phunk music
D-Phunk , or Germany-Phunk, is a band of the brothers Dirk and Jan-Heie Erchinger, which has existed since 1997; D-Phunk Musik is their production company. The repertoire ranges from black music (Reggie Worthy, Denise M'Baye ) to his own jazz solo CDs and jazz audio books. The audio book with the actor Rolf Zacher (Rolf meets Zacher vs. D-Phunk), for example, got a 5-star rating in Rolling Stone.
Bahama Soul Club
The Bahama Soul Club is a Bossanova-Funk band led by producer Oliver Belz and singer Pat Appleton from DePhazz . The band emerged from the JuJu Orchestra and has already had several releases, including on the Brazilectro samplers. Bahama Soul Club also played at jazz festivals in Amsterdam, Vienna and Gronau.
Solo projects, collaborations & guest appearances
The Jazzkantine worked live and in the studio with numerous internationally known artists. Including Nils Landgren , the Wu-Tang Clan , Till Brönner , Fred Wesley , Randy Brecker , Smudo , Edo Zanki and Laith Al-Deen .
D-Phunk produced for Pee Wee Ellis , Count Basic and Rolf Zacher , among others .
Jan-Heie Erchinger works with the director Gilbert Holzgang on audio books with musical accompaniment.
Since around 2012 Erchinger has been devoting himself more and more to the cultural scene in his hometown Braunschweig. There he was active in the context of the Taumel Festival as well as the musical director of the project Vicky Lu - Departure into a New World , of the Low German project Wir kann auch Platt! and the casted band bbeatz as well as the jazz festival Jazz im Park .
