Barbet Schroeder (born August 26, 1941 in Tehran , Iran ) is a French film producer , film director , screenwriter and actor of Swiss descent.

He began his career as a producer of Eric Rohmer's films , including The Collector . As a director, Schroeder became internationally known in 1992 for the film Female, Single, Young Seeks… . He had previously helped Jeremy Irons to win an Oscar for The Affair of Sunny von B. , in which he dealt with the alleged attempted murder of Sunny von Bülow by her husband, the Danish nobleman Claus von Bülow. Schroeder himself was nominated for an Oscar for his directing, but lost out to Kevin Costner ( Who Dances With Wolves ). Two of his earlier works are remembered today primarily through their setting by the English rock band Pink Floyd : The films More - more - always more ( soundtrack of the same name by Pink Floyd from 1969) and La Vallée ( Obscured by Clouds album from the Year 1972).

In 2007, Schroeder received his documentary In the Order of Terror , in which he portrayed the controversial French lawyer Jacques Vergès and for which he won the César for Best Documentary in 2008, received critical acclaim . In 2008 he was invited to compete at the 65th Venice Film Festival for the French thriller The Geisha Secret .
