Maîtresse is a French love story by director Barbet Schroeder from 1976. The film depicts the sadomasochistic love story between a burglar and a dominatrix .
action
The insignificant petty criminal Olivier ( Gérard Depardieu ) learns while he is repairing the installation by Ariane ( Bulle Ogier ) that the home owner's apartment is apparently abandoned and appears to be a worthwhile destination. When he tries to take advantage of the opportunity with an accomplice and she catches him, he realizes that Ariane runs a BDSM studio in the house and works as a professional dominatrix. Oliver moves in with her and begins to support her in her work; both fall in love. The studio and private apartment of the attractive young woman are directly above one another, connected by a secret trap door. As the couple's feelings deepen, it begins to oscillate back and forth between the everyday world on the upper floor and the world of sadomasochism on the floor below as well as between Maledom and Femdom . Both are looking for a way that enables them to have a future together, and they finally discover it while driving through the surrounding forests.
backgrounds
- Karl Lagerfeld designed the costumes used
- Pop art artist Allen Jones created the set design
- A real dominatrix with three of her bottoms took part in the production. These were used in the games in the studio.
- A formerly controversial scene is related to the Parisian horse slaughterhouses. In an interview, Schroeder stated that he was made aware of this place by Depardieu, who had previously worked there.
