Igo Sym
Igo Sym , born in Julian Karol Sym , (born July 3, 1896 in Innsbruck , † March 7, 1941 in Warsaw ) was an Austro-Polish actor .
Life
The son of Anton Sym and his wife Julia, née Sepp, served in the Austrian army after school and studies during the First World War . From 1918 to 1921 he was an infantry officer in the Polish army , which he left as a first lieutenant in the reserve .
From 1921 to 1925 he worked as an employee and authorized signatory at the economic bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego in Warsaw. After his first film use in 1925, he received a contract with the Sascha Filmgesellschaft in Vienna. In numerous silent films, Sym embodied especially elegant gentlemen and officers. On January 29, 1928, he was elected chairman of the Sascha Film Studio's film artists' association.
From 1928 he also worked for German film. In 1931 he appeared on stage for the first time in Vienna in the operetta Majestät lets bitten . In the thirties, Sym became more and more a stage actor, who was particularly popular in Warsaw as a revue and operetta star. He shone with acrobatic interludes and his musical skills on the singing saw .
After the attack on Poland, Sym, who saw himself as an ethnic German , cooperated with the German occupiers and took over the management of the new, German-language theater in Warsaw. He also took part in the anti-Polish Nazi propaganda film Homecoming . The Polish underground state saw in Sym a traitor, especially since his collaboration with the Gestapo became known. An underground court sentenced him to death , and a firing squad shot him dead in his home. This act was followed by numerous murders and deportations of the Polish population as “reprisals” .
