Italia Almirante Manzini
Italia Almirante Manzini (born June 3, 1890 in Taranto , Italy , † September 15, 1941 in São Paulo , Brazil ) was an Italian silent film diva .
Life
Almirante Manzini comes from a southern Italian family of traveling actors. Her cousins were Giacomo , Ernesto , Luigi and Mario Almirante . She was also related to Giorgio Almirante , who was a nephew of the 2nd degree. She was married to the journalist and playwright Amerigo Manzini .
She began her career with the family drama company at the age of 15. Her tours took her to Brazil. She made her film debut in 1911 at Cines , but continued to play on the stage. In the first half of the 1910s she also embodied passionate but also solemn women for the Itala film company . In addition to the films Sul Sentiero della Vipera (1912) and Bacio della Zingara (1913), her embodiment of the North African Princess Sophonisba lying on a leopard skin in Giovanni Pastrones Cabiria (1914) is one of the highlights of her film career. About to Patria! (1915) Pina Menichelli overtook her as the studio's new diva . Almirante Manzini continued to appear in films in Turin and Rome, but after 1924 her film career was largely over. After her only sound film L'ultimo dei Bergerac by Gennaro Righelli , she emigrated to Brazil in 1935, but continued to play in theaters there.
