Mario Almirante

Mario Almirante (born February 18, 1890 in Molfetta , † September 30, 1964 in Rome ) was an Italian director and actor, especially the silent film era .

Life

Almirante's ancestors were dukes of Cerza Piccola ( Cercepiccola ) in Molise until the end of the Ancien Régime . His grandfather, Pasquale (1799–1863), and his father, Nunzio (1837–1906), made a living from acting and also Mario's siblings Giacomo (1875–1944), Ernesto (1877–1964) and Luigi (1886–1963) took up this profession, also his cousin Italia Almirante Manzini . He began as a stage actor, where he worked with well-known actors such as Eleonora Duse and Ruggero Ruggeri , until he switched to the film business as a director in 1920. He made about 15 films in that era. After the emergence of talkies and a few other films, he withdrew from it in 1933. He later works as a dubbing director .

His son Giorgio founded the neo-fascist party Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI) in 1946 .
