Ernesto Almirante

Ernesto Almirante (born September 24, 1877 in Mistretta , † December 13, 1964 in Bologna ) was an Italian actor .

Life

Almirante comes from a family of actors and has played alongside his father Nunzio and his siblings Giacomo , Luigi and Mario and his cousin Italia since he was a child . During his career he was rarely seen in romantic lead roles due to his long-legged, limp-looking figure, so that he soon worked as an agent behind the scenes and organized various acting groups. After he had already played a role in Federica d'Illirio by Eleuterio Rodolfi , which was filmed in Turin in 1919 , Guido Brignone persuaded him to play a small role in his film Passaporto rosso in 1935 . It wasn't until four years later, however, that Almirante began to pursue this career seriously and became one of the most industrious and sought-after character actors in Italian cinema. After the Second World War he embodied the type of old man from the Belle Époque , who saved this attitude towards life in the middle-class families of the films by Alessandro Blasetti , Federico Fellini and with Totò . Almirante's brothers, who were hired for similar roles, offer a high potential for confusion.

In 1955 Almirante ended his film career and moved to an old people's home for actors in Bologna, where another documentary was shot that would become his last work, Chi è di scena? .

Giorgio Almirante is his nephew.
